City and Memory| 1hr : 35mins
Director: Gabriele Hochleitner | Producer: Gabriele Hochleitner
Focus Years: 2001 | Country: Austria
Synopsis:
So the story in the film, more or less documentary, if you can call it that, follows a very personal selection of people and places in Rome. Places I went to years ago, people I met by chance. The persons in the film are mostly older than I am, some are foreigners, some are artists, others are ordinary people, like a man working at the Roman railway station or a woman in a post office. They talk about the city, about themselves, about the special light in Rome and the good cuisine. The starting point was the fact that the Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmann had lived there for over fifteen years. I read a lot of her books and I liked the idea of going back to the city where she lived for a long time. I've got a very special relationship with that city where I spent four years after my graduation in Austria. During the shooting in Rome I realized that the film has only little to do with Ingeborg Bachmann, more with myself and what and who I met through the past year, it is a kind of homage.
