Muamba| 1hr : 17mins
Director: Chico Faganello | Producer: Lucia Brancher & Chico Faganello
Focus Years: 2010 | Country: Brazil
Synopsis:
"Muamba" - which means petty smuggling - offers an uncommon perspective on South America, seen from southern Brazil. It is a surrealist adventure that begins at the Friendship Bridge, which unites Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, in one of the world's most complex border regions. In the 1980s, the smuggling of cheap goods fed the growth of a small city where relationships are also clandestine and chaotic. The characters emerge from a melancholic world where petty, hypocritical schemes permeate the local elements. There is a father who smuggles cattle and pigs, and also raises insects; a priest who has a lover; a vacuous and childish TV show - a game with cards of buffalos, fish, insects and birds. The soundtrack is multicultural: sung in Guarani with regional themes - as well as boleros and a Sicilian pop with an Arab twist.
