Afghanistan is a country devastated by the horrors of war, crime, violence and poverty. It suffered through the Soviet invasion of the 1970s and 1980s, the Afghan civil war of the 1990s, and through the Taliban regime. Right after September 11, 2001, the majority of Afghans welcomed foreign troops with open arms, hoping they would finally bring peace and stability. There were hopes that democratic governance and international efforts at state-building would produce much needed economic, education, and infrastructure development. Since then, the capital of Kabul has witnessed major changes. Though billions of US dollars have been channeled into Afghanistan over the past 10 years, the benefits of such aid money and the development efforts funded by them have been of little benefit to the majority of Afghans, particularly the 80% of the Afghan population residing in the rural areas. This film takes us to 13 provinces of Afghanistan to discover what its people have to say about the past 10 years of democracy and state building by the international community and how it has affected them. Has the effect been negative, positive, or none at all? We are talking to a diverse selection of Afghan men, women, and children - educated individuals, students, farmers, government employees, and even insurgents opposing the government. "Voice of a Nation: Afghanistan 10 Years after 9/11" is an observational documentary that reflects the issues of the last 10 years in Afghanistan through the voices of Afghans. The film aims to capture their uncensored and honest opinions and views on their lives.
