Poets in No Man's Land| 21mins
Director: Stephanos Stephanides & Stephen Nugent | Producer: Stephanos Stephanides
Focus Years: 2012 | Country: Cyprus
Synopsis:
The documentary focuses on nine poets from different countries who spent a week together in Nicosia, the divided capital of a divided island. As they walk through shops, streets, and public spaces, across barriers, in meeting rooms, in courtyards and on rooftops, among ruins and barbed wire, they discuss ‘no man’s land,’ as reality and metaphor freely interpreted. They read their own poetry and translate each other’s poetry mediating and negotiating meaning across different languages and cultures. They write and speak in Greek, Turkish, Polish, Lithuanian, Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and English.
