Synopsis:
In 1975, the Khmer Rouge conquer Phnom Penh and the city is evacuated. Bovannrith, then a 13-year-old child, begins living the tragedy of the Cambodian people. His name, which means “Shining Gold”, is too precious for the new Khmer order, thus he is forced to change it to Tho, “vase”. It won’t be enough to save his family and spare him four terrible years in a work camp. Today, Tho Nguon is a 44 year old man, a doctor, who lives in Biella where he has rebuilt a new life. One day, out of the blue, the past knocks on his door. Twenty-five years after his escape, the hope of finding his youngest brother takes him back to his homeland. Tho decides to return to Cambodia and confront for the first time, face-to-face, the ghosts who have obsessed him during his life.
