Silence Is Golden| 20mins
Director: Nikola Boshnakov | Producer: Bidon Film & Alliance for Earth
Focus Years: 2006 | Country: Bulgaria
Synopsis:
This documentary satire follows one town's resistance to a proposed gold mine on their lands. Residents from the area of Krumovgrad, Bulgaria struggle against the Canadian mining company Dundee Precious Metals in a collision between the local low standard of life and the corporate morale of the gold company. The film offers different perspectives - the arguments of the company in favor of safe manufacturing and extraction of gold in the region, and the arguments of the local citizens who strongly reject the company's intention to destroy the nature of Krumovgrad. The documentary research of the Bulgarian director Nikola Boshnakov is a protest against the encroachment of the natural resources and human rights in the name of corporate and personal interests. His movie shows "the other truth" - the truth of the ordinary resident of Krumovgrad against the power of lobbying and corporate interests.
