Synopsis:
This is the story of an eccentric British couple that gives up the comforts of retired life in Britain, and head to India on a mission. They want to save the working donkey. For the poverty-stricken slum dwellers in Delhi, the so-called “slumdogs”, the donkey is their work machine. Put into back-breaking labor for seven days a week, eight hours a day or more, these donkeys transport bricks to India’s booming building industry. These “slumdog donkeys” are literally being worked to death, seldom reaching their 5th birthday. India’s 21st century growth is being built with biblical means. Jean and Bob Harrison want to change these ancient attitudes towards working the welfare of these animals and make a difference. Travelers since the swinging sixties, it was India that stole their hearts, and along with it, the plight of its donkeys.
