Synopsis:
Sikh religion is unique. Its temples provide free food through their kitchens, known as Langar, to everyone who comes, regardless of their belief. Everyone is welcome and is treated the same. It is a firm testament to equality and service which can be seen anywhere in the world. Each Sikh devotee contributes to the Langar either in offering food, cooking, serving or cleaning. The langar is their expression of the fundamental obligations of human beings in this world, which is to take care of fellow man and recognize that they all are equal in the eyes of God. Dr. Deepak Chopra explains the Sikh concepts of Sewa, Simran and Satsang as they relate to Langar and Sikhism. The film also has a historical review of the origin of Sikhism with the early teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Vikas Khanna explores places significant to the history of Sikhism including Bein river and Sultanpur Lodhi. The highlight of the film is the visit to the kitchen and the Langar hall at the Harmandir Sahib, Golden Temple in Amritsar. Vikas then visits a Gurudwara in New York. The film wraps with final statements by some of the devotees and snapshots of langars all over the world.
